OUR UNIQUE VOLCANO HORSEBACK RIDING EXPERIENCE

IN SOUFRIERE, ST. LUCIA

approx 2 hours

Overview:

Over 32,000-39,000 years ago the Qualibou Caldera formed, setting the stage for the Majestic Gros and Petit Pitons. Also known as the Soufriere Volcanic centre the caldera occupies a 3.5km x 5km wide area which includes most of Soufriere. The early Arawak inhabitants of Saint Lucia thought that the mud pools were where Yokahu, the God of Fire, lived. The Caribs later offered sacrifices to appease the anger of the gods, (yikes!) particularly after intense hydro-thermal activity at what is now Sulfur Springs Park. A visit to the Sulpher Springs is decidedly a must do while in St. Lucia and exploring by horseback makes for a most unique experience.

Experience a combination of horseback riding through lush Morne Coubaril Estate and then closer into the heart of the Qualibou volcano in St. Lucia where the landscape drastically changes. As you enter into the volcano take in the breath taking views while on horseback, riding into the Caribbean's only walk through volcano. At the Sulpher Springs Park you can choose to indulge in a mineral mud bath OR do a guided tour of the Qualibou Volcano before you horseback ride to the estate.

Volcano Ride Highlights:

  • View the replica Carib village while you horseback ride through the estate at Morne Coubaril Estate.

  • Photo opportunities on hilltop views of Petit Piton, Soufriere town and the volcano.
